Platform

Community Directory

Mini World Atlas is a community directory and resource platform for the global miniature hobby — covering scale modeling, miniature dollhouses, wargaming miniatures, and related creative pursuits.

I conceived, researched, branded, and built Mini World Atlas from scratch — managing every aspect of the project, from market research and brand development to product architecture, content strategy, and technical execution.

The Challenge

A scattered community.
No central hub.

The miniature hobby has a passionate, global community — but no central, well-organized resource hub. Enthusiasts were scattered across Reddit threads, Facebook groups, and fragmented YouTube channels with no single destination for discovering shops, suppliers, tutorials, events, or communities.

The goal: build that missing resource. The constraint: build it independently, without a team or external funding.

My Role: Everything

I am the researcher, brand strategist, content director, SEO lead, product designer, and community manager. I used AI-assisted development tools on Replit to build and iterate on the platform — enabling me to execute technical work that would otherwise require a developer, and move faster than a traditional solo build allows.

Strategic Approach

01

Market Research First

Before building anything, I mapped the competitive landscape — what existed, what was missing, and where a new resource could genuinely add value without duplicating what was already out there.

02

Niche Community Focus

The miniature hobby is a wide umbrella. Defining the right scope — specific enough to be useful, broad enough to grow — was a core strategic decision that shaped everything else.

03

SEO as Foundation

Organic search was identified as the primary acquisition channel. Keyword research and content architecture were designed to surface the platform in relevant searches from day one.

04

Content Before Community

Seeding the platform with high-quality, genuinely useful content before opening it to wider community participation — to ensure new visitors had something worth finding.

Deliverables

  • —Full brand identity — name, logo concept, color palette, typography, and visual language
  • —Market research — competitive landscape analysis, audience definition, and content gap identification
  • —Content architecture — site structure, directory categories, and information hierarchy
  • —SEO strategy — keyword research, on-page optimization, and content planning
  • —Community development — membership framework, engagement strategy, and growth planning
  • —Product copy — all web copy, descriptions, and onboarding content
  • —Launch strategy — initial content seeding, distribution, and early community outreach

Outcome

Mini World Atlas is live and growing. The platform demonstrates that a single person with strategic thinking, content skills, and modern development tools can build and launch a real, living product from concept all the way to reality.

Reflection

"Mini World Atlas proved to me that the gap between having an idea and building it is smaller than most people think — if you're willing to research it properly, position it carefully, and actually execute. The project taught me as much about product thinking as any course I've taken."
